Bait Ball of Minnows vs Grouper, Snapper, and Blue Runners
In the video, a small bait ball of minnows forms around a large coral reef head. The bait seems to take cover near a ledge that is home to grouper, snapper, and blue runners.
I think it is very interesting to watch the predators attack and eat the bait. It is around 7:30 pm on the reef. When snorkeling we also see reef sharks, a sea turtle, and a school of large barracuda.

We found a cool Uninhabited Island in the Gulf of Mexico in the Florida Keys. The goal of going to the island was to look for shark teeth and walk on the beach. However, the most fun part was actually snorkeling. When snorkeling we found lots of spiny lobster and even a goliath grouper. Mini or sport lobster season is happening this Wednesday and Thursday so finding a good lobster spot is impor...

When cleaning the cobia we could a pufferfish and stingray in its stomach. The stomach also had worms which were kind of gross. The wreck was in about 30 feet of water. We anchored the boat and put chum out. Fo...

Thank you for this video I'm learning
Glad to hear it!
I learned to never throw a cast net with a shirt that has buttons on it.
Ha ha yeah that is good advice!
This video is the best I’ve seen in terms of delivering content that helps someone learn how to Mahi fish from start to finish. Excellent job.
Glad it was helpful!
well done video, i think i can do this. what is a good net that u recommend?
Thanks! Panel net designs are the highest quality. In the video link, I wrote and article showing some good nets. It depends on what type of bait you are trying to catch to determine the net you need. If you are just in shallow water less than two feet almost any net will work. If you are in deep water trying to catch bigger baits then you need a professional cast net.
@@CaptainCody7 excellent, thank you
Hey Boss. Great video. ? What type or brand of nets are u using. Pretty sure the bigger ones are panel nets. Meaning design.
Thanks! Yeah, panel net designs are the highest quality. In the video link, I wrote and article showing the nets I use. Thanks for the easy and understandable explanation
Sure thing, good luck fishing!
6:22 Good, thorough video! You're correct that the ACR PRB does not update GPS coordinates in real time. However, 30 minutes after the initial distress signal is sent (with GPS coordinates), the PLB does update its GPS position, and sends its updated position to the SARSAT network. This is covered in the PLB-400 user manual.
Thanks!
Ah, the time I've spent trying to learn this to catch some bream in a pond full of algae that smells like eggs lmao
Ha ha well hopefully you catch some bream!
Grabbing one for taking with me on fishing charters. Great video.
That is a great idea! Good luck on the charters!
A dry bag or box would be an excellent idea. Supposedly these will float, but I've also heard cases of leaking PRBs.
Thanks for this video. I have always been able to throw nets up to 6' with no problem, but that method would not work my heavy 7' net. After watching your instruction and practicing in the yard I'm now throwing it just fine Thanks again.
Glad it helped!
Why do you catch and release tbough?
I was just traveling through so I did not have a good way to cook them.
😳 I have a jug of it 😂 😉 oops
Thanks for sharing
Sure thing!
“*How to lose mullet*” there you go fixed it for you
Ha ha well you can only keep so many alive in a five gallon bucket so it was not a big deal!
NO ENDLESS TALKING, ALL DEMO..THANK U
Sure thing, thanks for watching!
Probably 11kg 10:30
Hmm it does say 11 lbs on the anchor. That boat was probably smaller than you realize.
@@CaptainCody7 10:25 you said it was 18ft boat and clearly 11 lbs. I just traded down from 16.5 lb Bruce that was rated for 28ft boat so I'm sure everything you described is a good match.
This happened in a restaurant today. So I had to go to the bathroom and pee but there was a toilet bleach in it. I didn’t know what it was so I just peed in it. It started fizzing and when I smelt it, it burnt my nose. I then remember what happens when you pee in bleach so I immediately left but before that I washed my hands
Glad you got out of of there safe. It is mostly with older pee but people say that it happens with fresh as well it seems.
Best tutorial I've seen for far. Easiest out of all I've tried.
Glad it helped!
That was a stabilizer that hangs from the trolling pole to slow the roll of the boat, has nothing to do with troll gear.
Yeah you are correct.
I'LL TRY IT TOMORROW MORNING WITH GRANNY AS THE BAIT
Ha ha that is great!
Nah too slow not even accurate
This is how many people clean salmon.
Very nice and seems consistent!
Yeah it works great!
Thanks for the great info!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for being nice to the fish. Please post more videos from Alaska.
Well right now I am in Florida. I would like to spend so more time in Alaska, I defiantly miss being up there!
But if you attach your anchor with twine then in a big blow the twine will break, the anchor as it only held at the base will also not hold and the boat will break free. IMO you might as well use a tiny anchor, it would have a similar effect. Otherwise I like the anchor ball retrieval system. I guessing it probably wouldn't work with a sailing boat as not fast enough.
I think an anchor ball would work for a sail boat. It would just take a bit longer and you need to be able to tie off to the front obviously. I have not had an issue with it breaking because of waves. It takes a pretty strong pull to break it free.
Please keep posting!
Thanks! Yeah, I know I have not posted for bit.
Ive been using this method but i struggle with consistency and cannot reliably pancake all the time. Any tips? I mostly get the net open about 75 to 85 percent of the way.
Well, I do make the suggestions in the video. If the net is low quality or old sometimes that is just the best you can do. Sometimes I get a new quality net vs my old beat-up net and I am surprised at how nice it opens. Obviously, make sure it is tangle-free as that is typically the issue.
@@CaptainCody7 alright thanks.
Incredible video, just ordered mine as well as an EPIRB.
Thanks! Sweet, that was a good decision!
Thanks 👍🍺
Sure thing!
I watched this old man on RUclips easily cast a damn net by holding the net straight up and grabbing it waist high which is about half and holding that in his right hand and then grabbing two weights and holding those also in his right hand and then grabbing two more weights and barley putting them in his left pocket and then he casted the net with his right hand and that shit was perfect every damn time lol. You gotta love old heads and their techniques. If i didn't explain it that good sorry about that
Yeah there are some interesting way to throw a net!
Nice clear information, thank you.
Sure thing, thanks for watching!
Never was told to pull back with my left hand..is that a trade secret.? 😆
Ha ha If it works for you then yes it is a trade secret!
My 15 year old son LOVES fishing. This video was amazing. Where are you fishing from Keys?
Great thanks, yeah this is in the keys!
Do you just do the perfection knot with circle hooks??
You can use them with any hook but for halibut we always use circle hooks.
Captain Josh I would buy you racks of you for smoking what a waste of of meat go to Stephen swistchew filleting and I will show you how to fillet fish I could make money of your waste by the way the pin bones are different from rib bones
IDK you have the heads off the fish. Josh shows a simple way similar to that done for pinks on commercial boats where the fish does not even get gut and gilled if you watch the entire video. Commercial guys clean thousands of pinks and or chums per day. The big kings are a bit different. I agree to save as much meat as you can. Many places sell the heads and scraps to boil for soup. However, charter guys can not sell any part of a fish.
@@CaptainCody7 it makes no difference to me if heads are on or off or gutted we don’t get the fish so abundantly so wherei live so every bit counts I use all my waste for crab bait And the rest goes in my compost I will keep your email till the next time I’m filleting and will show you my method of filleting I have a few videos on how to fillet and some of guys first time filleting I don’t know how to post them main stream on video but they are there I’m 76 and computy s drive me nuts but I admire your answering me it says a lot thank you
Nice fishing lure where i can buy sir.
In the video description I provide a link to an article where you can get the lures fully rigged on Amazon. Captain's Choice Fishing is actually a company I started to sell lures.
I've always put the wrist cuff on my ankle
Ha ha that seems a bit more difficult! If you are barefoot though I guess it would work!
@@CaptainCody7 in some cases i don't. Like where there's alot of rock or fallen trees. But off a boat im usually barefoot anyways (or crocks). I've tied off to the kleat of the boat too. Anything is better then watching your net sink to the bottom then realizing the cuff slipped off or wasn't attached in the first place. For the record I've only lost 2 lol I did retrieve 1
@@justingulick6747 I guess it could slip off but I have have not had an issue with that. Sometimes if I think something big might be around, I hold it in my hand so I can let go if needed rather than being attached. I have not had to let go yet though. Most of the time big fish like tarpon will just punch right through the net though.
@@CaptainCody7 Damn yeah thats a good practice in waters like that. I've only thrown in a couple lakes and a couple river's.
Awesome tutorial
Glad you liked it!
It has been suggested to wet the mono line before cinching the knot.
Yeah, that is a good idea!
Mom is thinking what am I doing on this boat. lmao
Ha ha She likes going out most of the time!
This video should be linked on the FWC app and website. The information is invaluable and your morality is a breath of fresh air, man. Thank you!
That would be great! Thanks for the comment!
I can't trust a man that doesn't always have a cast net in the boat!
ha ha that is a good point! At least we had a way to catch bait!
y7 You got the fish in the boat! Everything else is for the birds! Good work!
i also dont trust bruce if rope pulls it with curant change fliping it upside down it might not rehook i can say that out of experiance but the danforth always hooks again cuz claw always faces down
That could be the case where you are fishing. Where I anchor, I really like the claw anchor! The Danforth is more likely to get stuck and does not have a good way to release. If you like danforths though that is great cause they are typically the lowest cost anchors.
you are incorect my friend i have drag so bad on my cqr anchor in heavy currants or storms and have had bad expiriance rehooking after it pops out and danforth has never faild me even in storms and it has pop out and hook very fast so did not drag at all even in storms
Well the best anchor depends on lots of factors, size of boat, length of chain, and type of bottom. I link to an article I wrote with more information with an updated list of best anchors.
Awesome video! Really clear instructions on how to place each part of the net in your hands. So much clearer than any of the others I have watched. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
* * F.Y.I.: Known as the "Uncle Thevenow" (Thev-in-oh) method of "dry" casting, it was developed back in the early 1980s by Thevenow Harold DeLaney (1927-2009) of Avon Park, Florida. The technique has only recently become widely known and utilized. Namesake of "Tommy Joseph Thevenow", a 1920/30s pro baseball player, Uncle Thevenow was an imposing blonde figure, quite a character, with a dry sense of humor. He was considered the best bass and snook fisherman in the region. NOW YOU KNOW THE REST OF THE STORY !!!
Very Cool! How do you know that? Did you learn from Uncle Thevenow?
As a new guy, this was really informative and useful. Thank you for the quality content.
Glad it was helpful!
I’ve tried to cast a net many times, with many of the different methods, and I have never gotten it to work. What I think others have left out is pulling back your left hand when releasing from your right hand. I threw 2 pancakes right away. I cannot thank you enough Captain.
Nice! I am glad this method worked for you!
Who designed these nets?
A bunch of different companies make them. There is an article about it in the video description.
I've watched dozens of cast net videos and never would have imagined watching a video that is more than 10 minutes, yet here I was watching all 23 minutes because of how great the video was. Awesome instruction and examples of multiple styles of nets. I have multiple of the EZ Throw, and one of the fun things with them is you don't even need the second hand - just spin and whip it out there with your dominant hand, after draping the net over the ring, for pretty easy pancakes. I also have many regular cast nets as well and appreciate the non mouth/shoulder techniques you taught. :)
Thanks Matt! The EZ throw method with one hand sounds nice! Good luck fishing!
